Why Do I Need a Transformer?

Transformers are needed for some ceiling mounted heaters to run their ignition systems. Since regular current is too powerful for the ignition, a transformer limits the amount of electricity flowing to the patio heater head. The transformer turns 120 Volts into 20 Volts for safe electrical ignition of your ceiling mounted patio heater.

Typically, they install either in the electrical junction box of a commercial patio heater, or inside a wall connected to a switch. Placement should be determined by the electrician or contractor installing the unit.
